What is YWAM?
UIO is short for Ungdom I Oppdrag which is Norwegian for Youth With A Mission, simply called YWAM. YWAM is working across the globe and has workers from around the world. Our goal is to know God and make Him known. We believe that God created the world, and that man is His masterpiece. He wants friendship with every person on Earth. This message we want to give to all people. We help people to become what God had intended them to be. We have a passion for those who are in need. We want to see communities prosper through the wisdom of God.
YWAM has over 18,000 volunteers who live and work at over 1,100 centers in over 180 countries. Our workers come from many cultures and have different social backgrounds and church affiliation. We eat different food, speak different languages, have different habits and customs, have grown up with different world views. But we have all decided to follow Jesus Christ wherever He will lead us. Friendship with God is the most important thing in life for us.
What we are doing in YWAM, can be roughly divided into three things: 1) To give God's message of hope to all who want to hear it, in a way that they understand. 2) To engage and train youth to help and serve those in need. 3) To alleviate the suffering and give new hope to people who are held down by poverty, disease and social injustice. YWAM is not a centralized organization, but more like a family of local centers and services. Each center is free to design their own work and adapt to local needs within the framework of YWAM's beliefs and fundamental values. This freedom has meant that YWAM now has a myriad of different active branches around the globe.
YWAM Norway has several centers spread out through out the country.
